When we started planning for recording these live sessions, probably the first band that came to mind was True Womanhood. Having had a chance to see them live a few times before, there was no doubt they were bringing a fresh perspective to the table. It was exactly the sort of vibe that we wanted to capture for AON.
Over the course of the last year, the band has carved out an increasingly prominent place on the DC music scene. Having shared the stage with notable national acts like Indian Jewelry, Times New Viking, and Titus Andronicus, they share with these bands a penchant for pop tunes coated with a more complex sonic veneer. Armed with an arsenal of vintage gear and improvised instruments, their fuzzy brand of “avant-pop” is leaving an indelible imprint upon those get a chance to witness their live shows.
